Address and Bible Reading by Lynise Stevenson - Sunday 18 October 2015

The Reading today comes from the Gospel according to Matthew Chapter 27: v15 -18

v15: Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner,
whom they would.

v16: And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

v17: Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will
ye that I release unto you? Barabbas or Jesus which is called Christ?

v18: For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

Address:  Today our life lesson, our learning is about ENVY

And so it is: Pilate knew that the only reason why the High Priests and Pharisees wanted Jesus condemned was because of their envy for the miracles Jesus performed and the multitudes that followed Him.

So let’s look at this envy. What is it?  What was blocking these priests that stopped them from embracing what Jesus was about?

There are two bedfellows with envy – that of jealousy and that of greed.

In a sense you could sum it up as thinking about yourself and include selfishness.

So envy is made up of bits and pieces. Envy cannot be contained – you can’t box it up or put it into a compartment and dismiss it because envy is seditious – you can’t tell when it’s going to pop-up or where it’s going to be. Time and time again it will rear its ugly
head. You can’t touch it. The only person that knows you have it is yourself and is hard to identify. So you have to go deep, deep, deep within to find it.

People that say “I wish …….”  (and I’m guilty of that) is a form of envy.

What I’m actually saying is that the world I have about me is imperfect at this particular time and is not what I want. Realistically what I am saying is “God you’re doing a bad job for me!” That is an extreme but accurate synopsis of what we do.

In order to rid ourselves of envy we have to deal with what we have in our world. If you find it hard to have enough money to afford a holiday or even to buy food it is up to you to deal with that world. Don’t dream of a world where you wish you had lots of money or of
anything else that would make life easier. You have to deal with the world you have been given.

Why has God given us the particular world we have to deal with? It’s because you have a lesson to learn. Always the lesson and that is understood… deal with what you have or don’t have. And what does God do, being the Heavenly Father that He is?

Most of you have been parents or know what it is like to have little ones around you where you want to do the best for the little one. So God as the Father is doing the best for you. God wants to get rid of envy, that darkness within you, so that you can walk into The Light and shine forth. The shining Light within improves your world (of abundance).

It is very important to deal with Envy, the darkness that resides inside of you. Eradicate it – get rid of it. The most amazing knowledge there is to know, is that no matter which state or world you are in God never, never leaves you.

God accepts you as you are, along with your learning lessons.

Thank you.

May God bless you all
